The characters are changing, but change is not a comfortable process. Yukio and his relationship with Rin take the spotlight this volume. The two have radically different approaches to their problems, and it's entertaining to watch the two trying to figure out which method is right. That is, if a right way even exists. This volume just reaffirms that Blue Exorcist is one of the best shounen manga currently being published.

I highly recommend this series to any manga or anime fan. May 31, Amanda Setasha Hall rated it liked it Shelves: Overall, the story and art were good. They were making a bridge to the next arc. This was completely a fan service volume. I don't understand why all the exorcists were wearing skimpy bathing suits except for it being fan service.

Everything else was enjoyable. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I lov ehow they managed to fight and win against the demon and the Kraken and I love, love, love that Rin is now able to control his flames. I'm very worried about Yukio, though. May 16, Mahra rated it it was amazing. I re-read this volume! Omg why did I even stop this manga! I loved the fight between Rin and Yukio it was a real one and expected. Jun 04, Skye Skye's Scribblings rated it liked it Recommends it for: End of the Impure King arc and the Kraken story, which I enjoyed.

Interested in the new twist with Yukio and looking forward to seeing where the story goes next! Jun 03, Julia Sapphire rated it really liked it Shelves: Much better - liking the romance - character development for Rin and Shiemi - different attitude for Yukio. Jul 25, Darby rated it it was amazing Shelves: Yay a cute beach volume!

Blue Exorcist, Vol. 9

Shiemi is just the sweetest thing ever. Dec 01, Julie Hayes rated it it was amazing. Rin decides he has to be who and what he is — a beast who burns everything. Meanwhile, Shiemi is battling to save Kamiki from the fungus which has engulfed her. Is she strong enough to save her friend? In the aftermath of the battle, Yukio is furious, but Rin stands his ground. Yukio begins to see he may not always be right. Everyone retur5ns to the inn, where Tatsuma is healing and Mamushi is stricken with guilt for her part in what has occurred.

Juzo attempts to console her. Rin awakens to find himself lying next to Shiemi. She explains she came to check on him and fell asleep. Shura confronts Mephisto and demands to know what he has in mind for Rin. This concludes the Impure King arc — at least I think it does. Rin is coming to terms with who he is, and so are the others. Yukio not so much. The beach story about a forgotten god is great, and Juzo and Mamushi are hilarious.

Rin is every bit as headstrong and impetuous as he ever was but he is finally learning some measure of control. Another great volume, looking forward to more. Nov 01, TheGracefulReader rated it really liked it. Rin has finally found confidence in himself and that is a wonderful thing, but I wonder how long that confidence can last when it's so obvious that Yukio isn't being a very supportive brother.

And it's not that I don't understand where Yukio is coming from, but he's not judging Rin for being Rin, he's judging Rin for being the son of Satan. And at the end of the day, they're the same thing, but also so completely different She's becoming quite a tough girl! I hope she continues to grow.

That outta nowhere marriage proposal was so cute Nov 04, Delanie Washburn rated it liked it. I didn't like it as much as the one before. The first half wraps up the arc and the second half is fluff, but I liked the fluff I'll say, even better than the wrap up really. I wish that one girl wore more clothes though. Part of it takes place at beach and that could use some clothes too.

I like stories, but I don't like sex in them, even if it's not really sex. I also like my characters to wear clothes. Jan 15, Abeer Albossany rated it liked it. The whole mess the impure king had made was cleared and finished with at the beginning of this volume. We jump after that to the Kraken story and there we get to know how Yukio really feels about Ren. The two brothers finally reconciled at the end.

Jul 11, Nina rated it really liked it Shelves: Glad Yukio and Rin talked, even though I wish it ended a little better? Glad the impure king is finally over, and I did like how they ended that storyline. On to hopefully more fun stuff! This was such a great end to the arc! Rin finally drew his sword and it was so great to see him control his fire and defeat the Impure King. Dec 15, Elias Alexander rated it it was amazing Shelves: This series is just getting better and better. I'm freaking out over how good it is.

Jun 12, Shawna BacchusVines rated it really liked it Shelves: This volume is my absolute fave because of the brothers. The exorcism of the Kraken is my favorite battle scene in the entire series. Aug 23, Denny Ardhianto rated it really liked it. Mar 21, Magik rated it liked it Shelves: Mar 16, Scott Lee rated it it was amazing. This volume sees the end of the battle with "The Impure King," and the arc in which the exwires go with Yukio and Kirigakure go to Kyoto to Bon's family's temple. Rin demonstrates some serious growth, as do a few other characters--Shiemi in particular. The second half of the volume, a mini-arc of sorts, has the team take on a Kraken that is threatening an old sea god, at the sea between Kyoto and the order's school they set out from volumes ago.

This one is quickly resolved, but a key conversation between Yukio and Rin dealing with what's been happening, and with what it is exactly that's eating at Yukio. Apr 22, MissAnnThrope rated it really liked it Shelves: It feels like it's been eons since the last volume's release, so I was ecstatic to finally get my grubby paws on this volume. I'm already eagerly counting down the days until the tenth volume is out.

In a moment of clarity and acceptance, Rin impressively brings the Impure King battle to an end. After the suspenseful cliffhanger ending of the last volume, I thought Blue Exorcist, Vol. On the way there, the gang makes a fun stop at Kyoto Tower to make Rin's dream finally come true. Gawd, I love this kid. Under the impression that they're going to spend some time on the beach, the team soon discovers that their mission involves When people's lives are endangered, in true Rin fashion, he charges in without hesitation to rescue the others.

Rin, Yukio, and Shiemi end up separated from the rest of the group, and with the aid of an old sea god, come up with a plan to take down the monster. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Kazue Kato does a wonderful job at blending action, humor, and touching moments in a wildly entertaining package. The artwork is also top-notch. She captures facial expressions perfectly and her environments are beautifully detailed. Additionally, the characterization has me completely emotionally invested in every single one of them.

All of the characters in this series are just so darn likable. The loyalty and friendship that they share gives me warm fuzzies. I love how Ryuji and Koneko are able to admit being wrong with judging Rin, and then move past it. I laughed so hard when they were both struggling with their emotions of feeling proud of Rin's actions. One of the characters that I'm surprisingly getting attached to is Shiemi. I've always found her to be very sweet, but I tend not to enjoy damsel-in-distress characters.

However, she is really coming into her own and toughening up. She's getting stronger all while maintaing her sweetness. The dynamic between Shiemi and Rin is adorable. The scene where he wakes up next to her and she tells him she's his friend had me laughing until my tummy hurt. His reaction is priceless, especially with everybody else overhearing it too! One of Fujimoto's familiars causes a commotion after learning of his death and Rin, now an Esquire, manages to calm it down and becomes its new owner.

But the True Cross Headquarters sends Shura Kirigakure, a former student of Fujimoto's, to investigate about Rin and dispose of him after confirming his connection with Satan. Mephisto intervenes on Rin's favor, claiming that having him live and become an exorcist could help them to get the upper hand against the demons and the Order declares that he has six months to pass the exorcist exam, thus Rin starts his special training with Yukio and Shura.
