There were plenty of towels but no bath mat. Nice, flat-screen TV and many channels but no channel guide.
Could hear sounds from the room above in the early morning. Great to have free wireless internet, but there needs to be an outlet near the table. Windows were very dirty on the outside. No coffee-maker, kettle, fridge or microwave in the room. The second-floor room had an older TV but a newer bathroom.

This is likely the best place to stay in Nome. My wife and I spent three nights recently in Nome's Aurora Inn and, as others have written previously, we, like they, had a reasonably enjoyable and certainly restful experience.

The rooms are comfortable and quiet; and, if not luxorious, it is hard to imagine anyone not getting a good night's sleep in any one of them. Having never been to Nome before, we chose the Aurora because of earlier Trip Advisior reviews and, in the main, we're glad we did. There are, however, several things to be considered before booking a room at the Aurora.

Thankfully we had little luggage but we were still somewhat shocked when we called to be picked up to be told, rather brusquely, that we would have to get to the hotel on our own since the hotel never provided such service. The unpleasant attitude of the manager to whom we talked was, it ought to be noted, is complete contrast to the other front desk personnel, all of whom were unquestionably friendly and ougtgoing at all times.
Perhaps he had had a bad day. At the same time, however, the Aurora provides the only place in Nome where one can rent cars and the youngsters who man the front desk also arange all those rentals too.

That makes for efficiency on the one hand if one needs to rent a car but, as in our case, unbelievably slow check ins and outs from the hotel itself. There is a Subway within less than a block which offers a nice but quite limited breakfast menu but it would be so much nicer if one could simply stay "in" and get something at the hotel itself, even if that mean paying for it separately.
Nome is, as another reviewer called it, a "funky" little town but a fascinating one for all that. The three roads that radiate out from the heart of town offer some great views and, though we were not interested in either, probably some great fishing and hunting possibiliities too.
We'd like to return and when we do, even with all the caveats, we'd head directly to the Aurora Inn without a second thought.
