This list of reporting marks is updated on an ongoing basis and does represent "active" marks at any given time. Some of the listed reporting marks are assigned to now defunct railroads. Others are assigned to current companies but may not be found on any active equipment.
Where multiple names are included for a given mark, the current or most recent owner name is provided in parenthesis. Marks that end in any other letter are assigned to common carrier railroads for use on railroad equipment in interchange service.

Note about container and trailer marks: There are now thousands of registered codes due to the rapid increase in intermodal transport in recent years. The FEC routinely runs 12 to ft trains, all with conventional power. However, witnessing CSX try something different down here is always interesting. To an outsider, it seemed like an operational nightmare.

Since Q couldn't fit in any siding, they held nearly every train between Jacksonville and Pensacola about miles. Because of the broken knuckle and dragging equipment, the train was delayed for a good part of the day. In fact, the next day's train, Q, caught up with it!

The vessel can be pivoted along its longitudinal axis to empty the pig iron into a ladle.
The name is derived from the vessel's resemblance to a torpedo.
