Edwards, Coffey, and Studebaker share a strong affinity for the Augustinian mutual love model of the Trinity. The book has six chapters, all remarkably erudite.
Chapter one lays out the Augustinian mutual love tradition. Chapter two places Edwards and Coffey within that grand tradition. This volume is an exercise in ecumenical thinking by an up-and-coming scholar with an evangelical pedigree and sympathy for Roman Catholic history and theology. Studebaker employs Edwards and Coffey in an effort to promote doctrinal convergence among the people he knows best evangelicals and Catholics on the issues at the center of their longstanding division soteriological issues.
Conservatives on both sides may dislike his argument. The Trinitarian Theology of Jonathan Edwards by geoffrey. Het is echter in een enkel geval mogelijk dat door omstandigheden de bezorging vertraagd is.

Samenvatting Many Evangelicals want to believe in a God who is merciful to the multitudes that never hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but lack the theological categories to support that aspiration. This book addresses these areas of evangelical theology by drawing on a well-known figure in the evangelical tradition-Jonathan Edwards -and a contemporary Roman Catholic theologian-David Coffey Though they may seem theological worlds apart, their use of a common trinitarian theology-the Augustinian mutual love model-led them to similar conclusions on Christology, pneumatology, and the theology of grace.
Their common trinitarian vision provides resources to develop a transformational and relational vision of redemption and an inclusivist theology of religions within the evangelical tradition. The book brings Jonathan Edwards' and David Coffey's trinitarian understanding of God and redemption into ecumenical and constructive dialogue.
The Trinity plays a systemic role in their theology and leads them to similar Spirit Christologies and pneumatological concepts of grace. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. From Pentecost to the Triune God: A Pentecostal Trinitarian Theology
Jun 05, Monte Rice rated it it was amazing. In his book, From Pentecost to the Triune God: Studebaker brilliantly projects a Pentecostal Trinitarian theology that boldly departs from common perspectives within both Western and Eastern theological assumptions that the Holy Spirit plays a largely passive role within the Triune Godhead and instrumental or processional role concerning the mission of God to creation.
Studebaker concludes by appropriating this pneumatological nuanced theology of the Trinity, to the 21st century issues of religious pluralism and environmental care. The ecumenical yield of a Pentecostal Trinitarian theology is to supplement the traditional tendency to treat the Spirit as a passive and derivative procession from the Father— or from the Father and the Son— with a more active and complementary role of the Holy Spirit in the Trinity.
Charismatic experience is a defining feature of Pentecostalism, but I am convinced that this experience has theological implications and assumptions that need to be mined. I also nurture the aspiration that this project, as it joins with the emerging and diversifying Pentecostal theological undertakings, will speak not only to Pentecostals but also to the wider ecumenical family of Christian theology.

Pentecostals can learn much in conversation with other Christian traditions, but they have something to offer at the ecumenical table as well. Christian theology is one of the gifts of the Spirit of Pentecostal. May this volume reflect a tongue of that Spirit that opens up a deeper understanding and experience of that Spirit.
