Coming Home for Christmas
In that story, with that context, her growing adult relationships with the two men is not only a romance about two people but about the heroine falling in love with an awareness of who she really is. In this book, Allie is hired by older brother Robert to be the house manager in his mansion and to ready the house for sale.
See a Problem?
Robert leaves immediately for New York to conduct vague rich guy business. His younger brother Kip shows up and immediately falls all over this woman he's known for all of 17 minutes. The Kip relationship does nothing but make Allie seem far too immature and indecisive. The Robert relationship is largely conducted via email for the first half of the book. Yet Robert too falls for the seemingly perfect Allie.
Since the book gives us no reason at all for the attraction it all feels extremely creepy. And Allie seems like a nasty person. Sep 22, Kathi rated it it was amazing.
What a beautiful story about love, hope, and forgiveness! Jenny Hale is a brilliant writer who allows her readers to be captivated by the characters in her book. I really enjoyed getting to know the Marley family as they discovered the importance of tradition and family. Characters were well-developed, and I felt as though I knew each one personally.
Coming Home for Christmas really touched my heart. Dec 10, N. Not to mention there is little to no conflict present. Nothing jumps off the page, nothing calls my attention, nothing pushes me to read further. The writing was incredibly uneven, the pace completely off. It just isn't for me. Sep 24, Fabulous Book Fiend rated it really liked it.
What a lovely heartwarming tale! I knew I was going to enjoy this book just from reading the publisher's summary but I didn't realise just how feel-good it would be. It's a nice quick start to the story, you get to know Allie and her sister Megan straight away and then when Allie moves to look after Ashford the house she is employed to look after the characters start being introduced there too.
Allie is a totally relatable lead character. She has her insecurities and yet she is determined to m What a lovely heartwarming tale! She has her insecurities and yet she is determined to make the most of her life, something I'm sure we will all be able to relate to. Her only slightly niggling habit is that she jumps to conclusions rather quickly and can rush off before things were resolved, but this make for an interesting storyline with plenty of twists.
The idea of her going to look after a house over Christmas is a great idea for a plot, it was just a shame that she wasn't going to see her family over Christmas. The house is described in brilliant detail, as are its surroundings and so that made for an easy read. The brothers of the family, the male leads, are pretty interesting characters. I wasn't really sure what to make of them, and I wasn't sure whether i actually liked either of them. They seemed to have a certain stubbornness in common whilst one was incredibly laid back and the other the complete opposite.
The grandmother of the family seemed to be the character who controlled the storyline, Allie would think she was going in one direction and then Pippa would reveal something and Allie would find herself doing something completely different, or having to question her actions! The love story within this novel was a seriously slow burner, I was shouting at the book right up until the last few pages for Allie to get together with a certain someone no spoilers here I can just say the the ending was totally Hollywood movie worthy and reminded me very much of Pretty Woman, as it is commented up in the text by Allie's Mom!
I did a little cheer when the plot finally unravelled itself for me, and was thoroughly satisfied that I was kept guessing up until the last moment! This is the kind of Christmas book where Christmas isn't shoved down your throat for the entire novel, christmas is in the background, there are presents and a meal, but Allie's story is more important and the slow-burning love plot reigns overall.
There are certainly strong family values in this novel and for that reason i truly loved it. It's a great read if you are looking for something to ease you into the festive season but I really think that it would work at any time of year! Dec 24, April rated it it was ok Shelves: This book could have been so interesting, but it gets lost in the drawn out story and confusing romance.

Here is why I say the romance is confusing. You have no idea which brother to route for. Allie starts off crushing on Robert, then later meets Kip, has a flirtation with hims and kind of dating , definitely kissing, the whole time thinking about Robert. This kind of thing does not fly for me in romances. I like one clear couple, no kissy-face of thinking about somebody else. It just smacks of cheating to me. This would have been better as a simple fiction about the family and the internal struggle about selling the house. There were too many plot points to pick-up and it was very slow going.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Teri Schnaubelt, who to her credit kept me listening long after I was bored with the story. She has a terrific pace, she picks up the speed of the story as best she can. It was because of her I kept listening, even though I no longer cared what happened with these people. He voices were distinct and consistent throughout.

Coming Home for Christmas
The main character is arrogant, is hired as the house manager and interferes and offers her opinion when it is not requested. She flits from one brother to another, hedging her bets, abandoning her own family for a family she doesn't even think she can be part of. Pippa and Robert were the only characters I vaguely liked. Aug 29, Jessica rated it did not like it Shelves: The main love interest was a complete idiot and the protagonist seemed to know that.
The story was completely predictable to the point of boredom. I normally adore Christmas chick-lit but once I started, I had little to no desire to pick this up again. Oct 20, Nessa rated it it was amazing Shelves: Wow, I have literally fallen in love with this book, was a truly wonderful heartfelt read from start to finish. It was so much more than a romance story, had lots going on and I was pretty much glued to the pages throughout and couldn't turn the pages quick enough. I read this in a day, so that says it all.

Having read a fair few of Jenny's books previously, I am happy to report that she is a wonderful author, has such a amazing way with words that just keeps you wanting more and the way she writes her characters and how they develop throughout a book, really makes them come alive.
I first heard about this book on twitter and was really excited to read it. So many of my friends out there were already on a search for some great Christmas stories yes, in September and all of them were talking about this debut. After checking the blurb I was certain I was going to enjoy it. After all, I'm a huge sucker for Christmas reads and romance stories. It's a beautiful story that will warm your heart and instantly get you in festive mood.
The story is centered around Allie, who just lost her job and moved back with her parents in Virginia where she needs to start from scratch. Her sister Megan tells her she has a client who is offering the perfect job - living in a dream mansion and being the in-house manager of the Ashford house. It's not really Allie's dream job but after much convincing from her sister, she finally decides to take it. The Ashford house belongs to the wealthy but pretty much disjointed Marley family.
Though beautiful and huge, the house is nothing but a weight to Robert Marley and the main reason why he wants to sell it. For handsome but stubborn Robert, the house is just a reminder of the great tragedy that ruined the lives of the Marleys. After meeting the rest of the Marleys, Allie finds out she has more important things than manage a household. Could it be she has the chance to bring back a family together?
OMG, there are just so so many things I loved about this book. Guys, let me tell you, I've read so many books yet I can't actually recall reading a book with so many loveable characters. I'm usually pleased when I get to connect with one or two of them, but Jenny Hale did it!
She made me care for all of her characters who were brilliantly portrayed. I can't decide no matter how hard I try, they are all memorable and lovely. Even Robert, the biggest Scrooge in modern history made me fall for him despite his stubbornness and attitude.
But what I loved the most is probably the fact this is not yet another romance story. Coming Home For Christmas is a mesmerizing story about what really matters in life - family. The big tragedy that torn the Marleys apart was definitely the most emotional part and as much as I tried, I couldn't help but shed few tears. Marleys have their ups and downs and despite being incredibly rich and disjointed at the beginning, you can feel they deeply care about each other.
They are not snobbish though one would expect that and despite being so rich, they respect their employees, which made me love them even more.
The romance part was gradually built, and that's just another thing that made this book feel more real. Coming Home For Christmas is definitely a warm and beautiful read. Strongly recommended for all HEAs addicts: Sarai tu che starai a capo della tavola dei Marley e lo farai per diverse generazioni. Ella appare diversa a seconda delle circostanze: Nov 18, Terri Wino rated it really liked it Shelves: First, let me say some of the reasons why I should not have liked this book: The lines that Allie crosses as an employee are just ridiculous in this story.
Her involvement with Kip just had me shaking my head. Her fascination with Robert, when she's only met him one time is so implausible. The "relationship" they have with only a few emails and phone calls about her job should not be enough basis for any of the events in this book. I totally loved this book. With each chapter I First, let me say some of the reasons why I should not have liked this book: With each chapter I read, all reason just left the room and I found myself sucked into this story, this family, this house, and everyone in it.
This is not a traditional "love" story by any means, but I have to say when I finished the book I did so with a warm glow in my heart.
Coming Home for Christmas () - Rotten Tomatoes
This is the first story I read by Jenny Hale. Her writing style just sucked me into this world and there were parts of the book that I had such a clear picture of the environment around these characters. I'm so glad this was one of the books I decided to read for the holiday season. By the end of the book I honestly didn't care whether any of the story was improbable. I just simply enjoyed this book, and am going to immediately start reading A Christmas to Remember.
I hope I enjoy it just as much. View all 4 comments. I could not finish it I did not finish the book but Allie annoying. She liked her boss but she is dating his brother. And she really didn't want to date him but she was so passive she gets talk into things. And the other employees were watching this relationship. It all just made me uncomfortable. It wasn't romantic at all. This book was way too big for its britches. A quick read that kept me interested.
I wanted to keep reading about Allie and the love triangle of sorts she was in with Robert and Kip. Dec 18, Shirley Revill rated it really liked it. Really enjoyed this book. After eleven years working as a Nanny, at 32 years old, Allison 'Allie' Richfield was moving back into her childhood home with her mom. With no prospects of a new job on the horizon, Allie's sister, Megan, who is a well established Real Estate Agent, has a proposal for her sister.

After some consideration and the flip of a coin, Allie agrees to meet with Mr. Robert Marley is the eldest of his siblings, sister, Sloane, and brother, Kip, and he has decided to sell their childhood home, much to the grandmother, Pippa's disdain. Pippa's only son, Samuel father to Robert and his siblings and his wife were killed in a car accident many years ago and Pippa brought up the children at Ashford.
But now that Pippa is in her early 90's and Robert is feeling the pinch with the many bills to run this very large estate he has told Pippa that it is going on the market. When Allie meets her new employer, Robert, she is instantly attracted to him and believes those feels are being reciprocated. But as time goes on, she finds Robert distant and thinks there is a rift between him and his grandmother and is even more stunned to discover that he will be away on business for the family's possible last Christmas together at Ashford.
Somehow Allie feels as she is getting to know the family and that Robert's distance can somehow be remedied by a little coaxing, she tries to get him to come home for Christmas so he can be with his family and maybe even Allie. A truly wonderful and heartfelt story of two people from opposite sides of the track who become employer and employee and at the same time are trying to stay professional even with the electricity clearly running through the two of them.
Author, Jenny Hale did a 'bang up' job of delivering this emotional and penetrating story looking into the lives of a family broken by a horrible tragedy early in their young lives.
